Finding replacement cabinet hinges
I had a cabinet hinge break, and I have looked at Home Depot, Lowes, and Jerry’s for a replacement hinge. None of the stores carry the correct style and I can’t figure out who built my cabinets. Any ideas?

Best plants for an ornamental rock wall
I am putting in an ornamental rock wall using river rock. I have slanted the terrace back so that I don’t have to cement the rocks together and hope this will allow me to put in some plants as well. Are there certain plants that do well in rock walls like this and that will give us some color through the year?

I would suggest that you bring the hinge to a local cabinet shop to see if they might recognize it. It helps if you bring the hinge and the plate. The plate will help the cabinet maker determine what the overlay is. Taking the whole door off with the hardware attached is another option. If the hinge is discontinued the cabinet maker will have to replace both the hinge and the plate to create the closest match. A cabinet shop will not stock the hinge, but they have many books that they can look through to find what you’re looking for. Alternatively, if there is a stamp on the hinge that indicates brand, you could search on the internet. In general, a locally owned cabinet shop is going to spend more time with you and have a broader range of resources, than a box store.
